In view of the latest situation of COVID-19, Prevention and Control of Disease (Prohibition on Group Gathering) Regulation is still under implementation and the performing venues remain closed till late April, we hereby announced that DWC HK Qualifying Match will be tentatively rescheduled to late May, details as below:

We are well prepared for the on-stage performance with audience as per our experience last year, however, we might cancel the audience arrangement but prepared to do video-recording on stage for the dancers, so dancers need not worry where to do the filming on their own if there is social distancing rules imposed by government. Worst of all, we might accept video-submission in response to the development of pandemic coronavirus as per government enforcement policy.

Please note below latest update:

  1. Deadline for enrolment extend to 15th April, 2021 subject to public requests.
  2. We now go for LIVE PERFORMANCE, if situation not allowed, we will cancel audience arrangement. Worst of all, when the venue is enforced to close down, we will go for video submission.
  3. This year, a team of local judges will be on-site judging from dancer's live performance with live comments and sharing. Meanwhile, we will also have a team of international judges from UK, Romania and Brazil will help judging, due to underlying problem of time lap and network streamline, international judges will judge from the recording of our live performance. Result judged by both teams will NOT be announced on the same day of the competition as what used to be there. Instead, result will be announced from Facebook and Official Webpage with 1 week of competition.


Award Certificate and Winners Medals will be mailed to contestants' registered address within 1 month.

Thank you ALL your support ! Your given efforts are deeply pleased and admired especially in a difficult year of 2020 and finally, The Dance World Cup HK Qualifying Match 2020 has been held successfully last year !

2021 Qualifying Match will be held in the coming months.

Given the situation of COVID-19 still not yet been well settled and some regions still under crowd control with class suspension, consider safety, Qualifying Match will be changed to on-line competition this year, contestants can choose either attend (no audience) or video submission, as well as judgement will be changed to on-line judging this year ! For judging panel, besides local celebrities, international judges will be invited who cover varies strength with different perception in dance art !

  1. Competition will be held on-line, DWC Asia will provide venue and technical support for on-site attend contestants and play video for those contestants who choose video.
  2. Results will be announced on the same day and event fluency is all depend on venue technical support !
  3. Mini section will be splitted up into : Age 4-6 Toddler & Age 7-9 Mini.
  4. Further details of enrollment fee, method of enrollment, schedule of class competition and rules of video taking will be announced later.

Schedule Release

Solo, Duet, Trio and Quartet competition will be held on 13-15 November 2020, at Y-Studio, Chai Wan. Detailed schedules and reminders were emailed to participants who decided to attend the competition in person. For video-entry participants who wish to change their mind and attend the competition in-person, please contact us on or before 3rd November.

Audiences please be reminded that some of the entries will be contested in the form of pre-recorded videos, which will be broadcasted independently to the judges. Videos will not beplayed openly to all audiences, as regulated by the Obscene Articles Tribunal, HKSAR.

As the Government announced on June 2 that the restrictions were now extended until June 18 , the latest notice made by Youth Square , the site management will not be publicly used for the time being in June . In other words, the Hong Kong Qualifying Competition will need to be postponed until July.

In effect of the extension of Prohibition on Group Gathering Regulation to 4th June, we further postponed the deadline of Video Submission to 15th June 2020 to allow time for group dance to workout the recording.

Meanwhile, our competition schedule still falls on the timeslot of 25th – 28th June 2020 at Y-studio.

Contestants who are qualified this year will be eligible to participate in the Dance World Cup Finals 2020, which will be held next year, summer 2021 in Europe. The finals for Dance World Cup 2020 will be postponed to the year 2021. In other words, we will have two finals in the coming year, “Dance World Cup World Finals 2020” and “Dance World Cup World Finals 2021”. More details will be released soon.

Due to the COVID-19 situation is severe, Dance World Cup Final announced the competition will be postponed to late August. DWC Final agreed Hong Kong Qualifying Match entries to be postponed till May. We are trying hard to co-ordinate with the Venue, the competition may be postponed to Mid-May to Late May. In due of the recent outbreak of COVID-19, Dance World Cup Hong Kong Qualifying Match, scheduled to be held on April, will likely be on hold. Due to The Education Bureau announced that class suspension of all schools will be extended to the end of schools' Easter holidays which the schools would resume classes on April 20 the earliest. Also, The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced Major Cultural facilities of performance venues will not be re-opened before the end of March. Considering the current situation and coordination with the venue, there are some re-arrangement of the competition schedule. Kindly understand we have been trying hard to make corresponding arrangement so as all the competitions could be finished within April to meet the application deadline for the finals, also try to meet the needs of all parties. Dear Contestants/Parents and Teachers,

Due to the Coronavirus situation, under the safety concern circumstances, we decided to do video submission for all the dance group competitions which supposed to be scheduled on 2020 Feb 9. However, we received messages from many teams that they really want to perform on stage and asked if the group competition got any chance to be postponed to April as well. After consultations with the venue representatives, they gave us a date in April at Y- Theatre and we have sent email to all the Dance Group teams and collected their comments last week.

Below please find the latest arrangement for the competitions regarding their comments and considerations:

Group Competition

  • The Group competition, which was scheduled on February 9 will be POSTPONED to 2020 April 13th (Monday)
  • If you could not attend the competition, you may choose to submit video on or before 2020 April 3rd through the official system


Solo/Duet/Trio/Quartet Competition

  • *** To avoid time conflictions with the Schools Dance Festival Competition, we need to re-schedule some of the dance groups time schedule. Below please see the attachment for your reference.
  • If you could not attend the competition, you may choose to submit video on or before 2020 April 3rd through the official system

Dear Contestants, Parents and teachers,

We understand that all of you would like to know the latest competition arrangement as soon as possible. Kindly understand many factors we need to take into the consideration; we are trying hard to discuss with the venue also keep on noticing the Government updates on the Wuhan Coronavirus in the meantime. Also, we have received many email and messages stated that the dancers would like to be able to perform on stage and hope to be qualified to enter the final which will be held at this June at Rome. As the Final entry deadline is at April, we hope to postpone the competition and the Hong Kong qualified dancers will be able to enter the final at the same time.

Below please see the latest arrangement:
The Competition, which was scheduled on 2020 Feb 9th, all the dance entries will be replaced by Video Submission. Kindly noted that the submission deadline will be POSTPONED to 2020 April 3rd. Please upload the video file to the official system.

We would like to elaborate for the video which need to be filmed the full view of the stage. We don’t mean that you need to do the shooting inside a theatre standard stage. Wherever suitable for the dancers to perform the dance, it will be counted as their performing stage. Just make sure to take the full view of the dance.

  • To be fair to every contestant, video must be filmed in between today to 2020 April 3rd. Video which was filmed at the past performance or competition is not accepted.
  • The Judges will focus solely on the actual dance performances. Location or backdrop, no matter how simple, or how spectacular will not factor into the judges’ decision.
  • Logo of any kind is not allowed in the video.
  • All dance videos will still be arranged to be judged by our Judge Panel in a fair stance.

In order to facilitate the video submission progress and reduce the submission cost. The technicians are working for the page on the official system for uploading the video files. Just like how you submitted the music file or the payment receipt record onto the system before, it will be the same way. We will let you all know how the page looks like and how to upload the files once the page was built.

All submitted video must be in following format and condition of filming:

  1. The camera must be set on tripod and film full view of the stage,
  2. The video must be captured at the front view.
  3. The camera must be set on a tripod and remain motionless from beginning to the end of the dance.
  4. Video editing or audio editing is NOT allowed in the submitted video.
  5. NO special effect and dance school identity in the submitted video (Example: Logos, signages, slogans or anything similar).
  6. Video image must be in "Sharp and clear" condition, no special effect or camera effect is allowed. (Example: Field of Dept, zoom in or out, fade in or out, pan or tilt)
  7. Video formats: avi, mov, mp4, mkv accepted only.
  8. Each dance can only submit ONE video.
  9. In the event if the submitted video does not match the above condition, the dance will be disqualified.

We are today informed by Y-Theatre the Venue is closed until further notice.

Further to our internal discussion, we would like to inform you the Group Dance competition which supposedly held on 9th February 2020 will be replaced by Video Submission in order to minimize the risk of dancers being infected.

In view of the preparation of video, we extend the Video Submission deadline to 15th March 2020 (by post).

  • To be fair to every contestant, video is to be taken within the period from today to 15 March 2020. Video of past performance is not accepted.
  • Logo of any kind is not allowed in the video.

Competition held on 14th–16th February 2020 (Solo/Duet/Trio/Quartet)

Venue : Y Studio

There is only limited seating for 120 audiences at Y-studio for the Solo, Duet, Trio and Quartet performances and that due to the current health situation we must keep to this number to avoid overcrowding.

Above schedule and arrangement will be confirmed on 9th February 2020 subject to government announcement.

Given the outbreak of Wuhan coronavirus, we are going to make adequate moves in the operation of Hong Kong Qualifying Match at Y-theatre dated 9th February 2020 and Y-studio dated 14th to 16th February 2020. We prioritize the safety of dancers, judges, and workers among all.

Since all Group Dance are scheduled on 9th February at Y-theatre, we expect crowds of dancers and audiences will be packed at the Theatre. Solo, duet, trio and quartet dance, being held at Y-studio which is a comparatively smaller venue that holds 120 audiences only, should be more spacious at the venue.

We have 3 options for dancers for Hong Kong Qualifying Match:

Option 1:

  • Perform as scheduled under following control measures at the venue :
  • Temperature screening of dancers at arrival checkpoints, changing rooms, backstage. Those confirmed with fever, coughing, sneezing will be required to leave the venue immediately.
  • All dancers are required to wear masks. They not allowed to take off the masks until they step on the stage to perform. They are required to put on the mask right after the performance in the backstage.
  • All audiences are required to wear masks at any circumstance. Those refuse to wear mask will be required to leave the venue immediately.
  • Dancers can leave the venue right after their performance and not waiting for the prize presentation. Please do tell the Reception Desk staff when report arrival.


Option 2:

  • Submit a video of the dance on/before 29th February 2020 by post (3B Nan Sang Building, 86 Belcher’s Street, Kennedy Town, HK). Please attached a photo of dancers dressed in costume for our record plus a note writing Class Code / Dance Name / Dancers Name / Entry number / contact phone number. Each USB will only carry 1 dance. We will return these USB to contestants after competition.

Withdrawal from the competition.

  • No refund will be arranged at the choice of withdrawal from the competition.


Class with both video submission and on-site performance dances

When the Class with 1 dance or more choosing Video Submission option, that Class will not be judged on the date of competition at Y-theatre and Y-studio. Those taking the option to perform on stage as we originally scheduled, we will be responsible to take the video recording of the performance of the dance. Judges will still be seated at the Judges Desk in the theatre to watch the performance although marks not being given. The recording of these dances and the Submitted Video will be judged by Judge Panel in early March in Hong Kong. The result will be announced by 15th March 2020. Trophies and Certificates will be mailed to contestants later. No prize presentation will be held.

Thank you for enrolling in Dance World Cup, Hong Kong/Macau/China/Taiwan Qualifier. The detailed schedule will be announced by 15 January 2020. Participants will be notified through email. No scheduling amendments will be allowed unless it is prior requested.

Participants may order competition photos and videos on-site upon reporting. Photos will be HKD140 per entry and videos will be $180 per entry. Only cash payments will be accepted.

Reporting time will be announced through email. It will be approximately one hour before class time. Only teachers/helpers will be allowed to the dressing room during competition. Parents will have no access to dressing rooms, unless they are registered as dressing room assistants by the school principal. Teachers will only be allowed at the side stage during MINI Sections.

  • ONE teacher pass and ONE helper pass will be provided for entries between 1-10 dancers
  • TWO teacher passes and TWO helper passes will be provided for entries between 11-20 dancers
  • THREE teacher passes and THREE helper passes will be provided for entries between 21-30 dancers


After the competition, dancers will have to wait for the prize giving ceremony to finish before they can get changed. Tickets for each session will be available at URBTIX. For the starting date of ticket sales, please wait for further announcement.

Master classes will be open for registration. Details will be announced soon.

Here are few reminders for your application for the qualifying matches. The Hong Kong Qualifying Match will be held on 9th, 14th - 16th February, 2020.

  • For 9th February, only small group and large group participants will dance.
  • For 14th – 16th February, only solos/ duet and trios/ Quartets/ Ballroom and Latin participants will dance.

No membership fee will be required for qualifying matches this year. However, membership fees are still required if you are attending the Dance World Cup Finals in Rome in the coming summer.

Last but not least, the Ballroom and Latin Qualifiers are ready for application! The competition will be held in 14th – 16th February, 2020. Please see our Latin page for application method, rules and regulations, and more. Wish you a fruitful journey of dancing in the year ahead!

We are pleased to announce that the Asian Cup 2019 will be held on the 9th February 2019 in Y-theatre, Youth Square, Chai Wan, Hong Kong.

Overseas and Mainland China applicants are welcomed to join the Asian Cup 2019. For Hong Kong applicants, only dancers joining the Hong Kong Qualifying match are qualified for and are able to enjoy a higher priority in applying the Asian Cup 2019. Only the following categories are available for application*:

KSPBR – Children Solo Ballet Repertoire with pointe shoes (age 12 - 13 years only)
KSN – Children Solo National and Folklore
KSM – Children Solo Modern
KSA – Children Solo Acro
JSBR – Junior Solo Ballet Repertoire
JSMm – Junior Solo Modern (including lyrical) (Boys)
JSN – Junior Solo National and Folklore
JDB – Junior Duet/Trio Ballet – any style
JDN – Junior Duet/Trio National and Folklore

All winners from the Asian Cup 2019 will be qualified to participate in the World Finals - Portugal in the coming summer. Hong Kong applicants are highly recommended to participate the Asian Cup. We are honored to have invited Macao Dance General Association to co-host the Dance World Cup - Macau qualifying match this year. The competition will be held on the 1st and 2nd of March, 2019. Please check our website for more details.

Thank you for your past patronage to the Asian Cup. Due to changes of the regulations, Asian cup 2019 will be suspended.

This year, besides dancers from Hong Kong; talented dancers from Korea, Singapore, Taiwan (except Macau and China*) are welcome to join the qualifying in Hong Kong. The qualifying is tentatively scheduled from 08-11 Feb 2019. Qualifiers will receive sponsorship and will be able to enter the final in Portugal in the summer.

Apart from organizing a competition, being the sole organizer in Asia; we would like to make this an educational and joyful experience for all our participants. Various interesting talks and master classes will be arranged during the competition period. We hope our participants will be able to learn and gain knowledges that will benefit mentally and physically while enjoying the high spirits in the competition. Details of these talks and classes will be announced later in our website.

There are several changes in the Official Rules and Regulations. Hereby are the major changes. For more details, please visit http://dwc-asiancup.com/en/rules-and-regulations .

  1. Dancers can perform in multiple SMALL and LARGE groups
  2. For exchange dancers, only dancers who participated in qualifying match are qualified to join the World Final 2019.
  3. There will be a 20 second time limit for any prop to be placed on stage and removed from the stage. Failure to comply with this will result in a 5-point penalty for each violation.
  4. Only MINI group dancers can receive help from dance teacher for placing and removing props
  5. Pointe shoes are not allowed in any CHILDREN's classes (13 years and under).
  6. Ballet soloists aged 12-13 years can wear pointe shoes in category KSBPR and/or KSPB.
  7. 12-13 years with pointe shoes in group dance can only enter the relevant junior classes. (Details please refer to the regulations)

Due to the numbers of participants for this event is limited; enrolments will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. The application deadline will be on 31 December 2018 (in Hong Kong Time).
